New Age Cartoons
When I was young, I used to love the crazy antics of Tom and Jerry, and Mickey Mouse and Friends. The Jungle Book was a favorite too. Up until a few years ago came Scooby Doo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Captain Planet that were also fun to watch. But now, if I mistakenly switch to a kids'channel I’m appalled at what I see.
Most channels are showing these Korean/Chinese made animations that are really not fun to watch. There’s violence, aliens and vampires everywhere. Fighting is mostly the core of these cartoons. I mean, what happened to entertainment? This isn’t even infotainment! Its about as painful as getting bikini hair removal!
Is this what today’s generation of kids being exposed to? Sure there was He-Man and Batman at our time too, but at least there was a moral. And the protagonists seemed real, more close to life. Today’s characters are far from that. White faces, purple hair and flowing capes, they look more like ghosts than cartoons. Moreover, I feel even the female versions are dressed in revealing outfits and are designed to appear ’sexy’. This makes me wonder, are these animations actually directed at children? If not, why are they being aired on kids'channels?
As a parent, I would not recommend young children to be exposed to these animations. The simplicity and innocence of a child needs to be nurtured, not tortured! I’d rather teach my children to be peace lovers than violent fanatics. I’d rather rent good old Tom and Jerry cartoons and watch kids squeal with delight!
